Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy is an enlargement of the perurethral glands in the prostatic urethra which are stimulated by the changing ration of of testosterone to estrogen which decreases as males age.The glands proliferaate into adenomas which in turn cause urinary blockage by compressing the bladder outlet and prostatic urethera. Prolonged obstruction or reflux can eventually lead to renal insufficiency.
