What is PRO-NOX?

PRO-NOX is an advanced nitrous oxide delivery system that provides a 50/50 mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This patient-controlled sedation option offers:

Rapid onset of action (within seconds)
Quick recovery (effects wear off within minutes)
Self-administration for personalized comfort
Non-addictive, mild sedation
No lingering effects, allowing patients to drive home safely

PRO-NOX is self-administered by the patient through an external breathing tube. Patients are generally aware of the procedure being done and can talk and interact with medical staff throughout it.

When is PRO-NOX Used?

Patients use PRO-NOX when they’re undergoing in-office procedures at Z Urology that may bring up stress or discomfort.

PRO-NOX can be a helpful option for patients who:

Experience anxiety about medical procedures
Have low pain tolerance
Prefer additional relaxation during treatment
Want to avoid general anesthesia or hospital visits
Want to minimize discomfort during urologic procedures

During your in-office procedure at Z Urology, you and your doctor will discuss if PRO-NOX is an option for your procedure. If you want to use this mild sedative, our staff will walk you through how to use it beforehand.

You’ll receive a single-use, handheld breathing tube to control your sedation level throughout the procedure. It will help you remain relaxed and comfortable during treatment. After the procedure, the effects of PRO-NOX will wear off in several minutes.
