Are You No Longer Having Erections Due to ED

Z Urology of South Florida offers so many services for your health and well-being like urinary dysfunction, BPH, and more, that there are some services that aren’t as commonly regarded. One such service that Z Urology offers is penile prosthesis. And while penile prosthesis is not a “life saving” operation, it can be very important to your mental state and sexual health. The ability to get an erection again is very important as there still are sexual desires. A penile prosthesis can aid greatly in this.

What is a Penile Prosthesis?

Basically, a penile prosthesis is another term for a penile implant. The implant is done by surgically placing the prosthesis within the penis for people having difficulties with Erectile Dysfunction. Normally, this would not be the first option for those with ED. This should be seen as a last resort.

There are two types of penile implants; the inflatable implant and the semirigid implant. Both implants are purely designed to allow one to receive an erection. They in no way are a stimulant for sexual desire or libido.

Types of Penile Prosthesis

  • Inflatable Penile Implants – Inflatable devices that pump up prior to having sexual intercourse. Usually, the inflatable penile implants will consist of three attachments. A reservoir under the abdominal wall that will hold fluid. A pump and release valve inside of the scrotum to control the fluid that will be used for inflation. And, the inflatable cylinders that will maintain the erection.
  • Semirigid Penile Implants – Penile implants that are going to be permanently firm. You will maintain an erection at all times and will have to adjust the penis either towards the body or away from the body.

Risks of Penile Implants

Due to this being a surgery, there are always risks. The risks include:

  • Infection – Infections may cause swelling and inflammation and are a chance in any surgery. These will be treated with antibiotics.
  • Implant Issues – Very rarely, these penile implants may malfunction. In these cases, surgery to repair and/or replace the penile implant will be necessary.

There are other issues that may occur that you will have to discuss with a doctor at Z Urology if needed. If one is experiencing any serious pain following the surgery, contact a health care provider as soon as possible.
