No one wants to hear that they have prostate cancer, and yet tens of thousands of men struggle with the disease every year. Although medical treatment from a qualified urologist is the best way to tackle a disease like prostate cancer, there are some lifestyle changes you can make to increase your odds of beating the illness. Here’s an overview of the kinds of foods that you should eat to stay healthy and keep your strength up when you have prostate cancer.

What to Eat and What to Avoid

If you have prostate cancer, it’s important to eat plenty of cooked vegetables. Cooked broccoli, tomatoes, and even cauliflower can give your system the boost it needs to sustain ample nutrition while providing you with plenty of antioxidants. Be sure to use olive oil when preparing cooked vegetables as it is healthier to cook with.

For meat and protein, stick with fish and lean meats like poultry or veal. The long-chain omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon are healthy fats that won’t impact your health in a negative way while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

Although there aren’t any foods that have been shown to have a direct link to prostate cancer, it’s best to avoid the same kinds of foods you would avoid while trying to stay healthy in general.     For example, you should avoid consuming large quantities of red meats with unhealthy fats.

You should also limit your intake of dairy products. While you don’t have to completely eliminate red meat and dairy products from your diet, you should try to focus on healthy foods throughout the duration of your treatment.
